Declined? Appeal Now

Understand why your status was declined and how to fix it.

The Reconsideration Process

If your SRD grant application was declined, you have the right to request a reconsideration. This is for when YOU feel that the reason for declination is incorrect or that since your last check, your circumstances have changed.

Timeline: You must lodge your appeal or reconsideration request within 30 to 90 days of receiving your declined status.

Common Decline Reasons

  • Alternative Income Identified: This means SASSA found money in your bank account that is over the threshold.
  • UIF Registered: SASSA thinks you are receiving UIF benefits.
  • SARS Registered: Home Affairs or SARS records show you may have other income.
  • NSFAS Registered: You are receiving study assistance.

How to Submit

1. Go to the official SASSA SRD Portal (srd.sassa.gov.za).

2. Scroll down to the Click here to lodge an appeal section.

3. Provide your ID number and mobile number used for the application.

4. Select the month you wish to appeal and provide the reason you believe the decline was incorrect.

Note: Reconsideration applications may take 60 to 90 days to process. All decisions from the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) are final.
